Window Types

Single Hung Windows

Single-hung windows are the most common type of window found in homes. These windows consist of two sashes, but only the bottom sash is operable. The top sash is fixed in place. Single-hung windows are affordable and easy to maintain, but they don’t provide as much ventilation as other types of windows.

Slider Windows

Slider windows slide horizontally to open and close. These windows are a good choice if you have limited space, as they don’t require any additional room to operate. Slider windows are also easy to open and close, making them a good choice for hard-to-reach areas. However, they are not as energy-efficient as some other types of windows.

Double Hung Windows

Double-hung windows are similar to single-hung windows, but both sashes are operable. This means that you can open both the top and bottom of the window to increase ventilation. Double-hung windows are more expensive than single-hung windows, but they provide more flexibility when it comes to ventilation and maintenance.

Awning Windows

Awning windows are hinged at the top and swing outward. These windows are often used in conjunction with other types of windows, such as casement or picture windows, to provide additional ventilation. Awning windows are a good choice for areas that receive a lot of rain, as they can be opened for ventilation even during a light rain shower.

Casement Windows

Casement windows are hinged on one side and swing outward when you crank them open. These windows are popular because they provide a lot of ventilation and are easy to open and close. Casement windows can be more expensive than single-hung or double-hung windows, but they are generally more energy-efficient.

Picture Windows

Picture windows are fixed in place and do not open. These windows are often used for their aesthetic value, as they provide an unobstructed view of the outdoors. Picture windows are energy-efficient, but they do not provide any ventilation.

Frame Types

Vinyl Windows

Vinyl window frames are made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), which is a type of plastic. Vinyl frames are popular because they are affordable, low-maintenance, and energy-efficient. They are also available in a wide range of colors and styles, making them a versatile choice for any home. However, vinyl frames can become brittle in extreme temperatures, and they may not be as durable as other materials.

Composite Windows

Composite window frames are made from a combination of materials, such as wood fibers and plastic. They are strong, durable, and low-maintenance, and they can be painted or stained to match your home’s decor. Composite frames are also energy-efficient and provide good insulation. However, they can be more expensive than other materials, and they may not be as widely available as other options.

Aluminum Windows

Aluminum window frames are lightweight, durable, and low-maintenance. They are also strong and can withstand extreme weather conditions. Aluminum frames can be painted any color and can be made to match any style of home. However, aluminum is not as energy-efficient as other materials, and it can conduct heat, making it a poor insulator.

Fiberglass Windows

Fiberglass window frames are made from glass fibers embedded in a resin. They are strong, durable, and energy-efficient, making them a popular choice for many homeowners. Fiberglass frames can be painted any color and can be made to match any style of home. They are also low-maintenance and can withstand extreme weather conditions. However, fiberglass frames can be more expensive than other materials.

Wood Windows

Wood window frames are a classic option that can add warmth and charm to any home. They are available in a variety of wood species, including pine, cedar, and oak, and they can be stained or painted to match your home’s decor. Wood frames are also energy-efficient and provide good insulation. However, they require more maintenance than other materials, and they can be more expensive.
